FROM SOFTWARE TO FILM

There's a great article in yesterday's San Francisco Chronicle about Charles Ferguson -- software entrepeneur turned filmmaker. He sold his tech startup to Microsoft in 1996 and spent the next eight years wondering what to do next. During that time he wrote two books, traveled the world, and joined a think tank.

Then three years ago, he decided to work on a documentary about the war in Iraq. The film, No End in Sight, has become a critical and box office hit for Ferguson. The film won the special jury prize for best documentary at this year's Sundance Film Festival and is currently one of the top grossing documentaries of 2007. Not bad for a first timer.
