5 DAYS IN C.A.

Was good to be back on the West Coast. It's been a few years. Spent the last week in LA and the SF-Bay Area on business. Here are some highlights...

While flying jetting to Burbank on JetBlue, I saw the NYT/Ellen Page event I attended in February on TV. Surreal.

First stop in LA -- team lunch at Pink's Hot Dogs. Yup. Worth flying cross country for.

Stumbled into a cool store called De La Barracuda on Melrose.

Next door is a sneaker shop called Sportie LA which has quite a selection (check out the shelves!).

No fan of tourist traps, but I really liked Universal CityWalk. Felt like a kid again.

Yeah. My office in NY doesn't look like this.

As long as I lived in SF, don't think I ever took a photo of the Golden Gate before.

Got to stay at the historic Claremont in Berkeley (thank you Erica and Susan).

Was lucky enough to catch Dennis Richmond's last night as anchor on Channel 2 news (been watching him since I was a kid).

Tried my first bamboloni (Italian doughnut) at Preferiti di Boriana in the Ferry Building. Mama mia!

Some of the best art I came across in SF wasn't in a museum, but out in public. Thanks to the SF Arts Commission.

Lastly, on my way back to NYC, I flew Virgin America for the first time. I had flown Virgin Atlantic to London (for the marathon) a few years back and it was a nightmare. Super tiny seats with no leg room (not good before or after 26.2 miles).

Thankfully flying Virgin America was the exact opposite experience. The seats were super comfy; slept through most of the flight, which never happens. Each seat has access to music, movies, TV, and an interactive menu to order food and drinks. This is the good life. VA all the way.
